Face the Fear

in Fear

Everyone has experienced fear. Some fears are a good thing, like when you're about to cross a busy street. You look both ways because you fear being hit; you want to stay safe and still cross the street. But sometimes a fear can grip you and seemingly not let go. Seemingly. Really it's you hanging onto the fear and not letting go. So how do you let go?

You must be willing to face your fear in order to let go. This is the only way to clear a new path for your self. Often what you fear is something that is NOT in your life: the perfect relationship, job, or the right amount of wealth (billions!). You fear these things will never come to you. But when you think those thoughts of fear, you sink deeper into the very thing you want to avoid: more of the same instead of the new and improved wish!

By facing your fear, you clear up space to let new things in that couldn't get in before now. You face your fear by asking yourself, "What am I afraid of?" and "What's the worst thing that could happen?" and then noticing what comes up for you. The trick is to keep it about yourself and not about someone else.

In other words, look at your behavior, your feelings, and your thoughts. Pinpoint your own fear. You can't control anyone else, and besides, no one but you is responsible for you and how you feel. My father once told me, after I'd accidentally done something I felt badly about when I was 15 years old, that the difference between a child and an adult is that an adult can ultimately choose how he or she wants to feel. Ultimately, you get to choose how you want to live your life, and a large part of that is about how you feel.

So facing your fear and naming it will help you to clear some space and open you up to discovering more about you. This can feel quite scary at first, and sometimes even unfair. But giving yourself this space will allow you to begin receiving whatever it is you've been missing or wanting! Stop yearning for it and start loving it.

When you stop searching outside of yourself and realize that all you want is within you, you will recognize that most of what you thought you wanted is really not a good match for you. Give thanks to your fear, because it will have opened your eyes to something even greater than what your fear had previously lead you to believe was true. Once you shed the light on fear, it can't stick around. Your fear will subside due to the fact that you truly know who you are and you can always count on that. You will realize what is truly important to you and march straight for it with confidence and love. The fear will melt away!
